In mid-November, TheatreWorld announced the development of its soon-to-be-released PHANTOM OF THE OPERA suite scheduled for the March time frame. Our design teams have fielded many questions about our artistic direction with the series and has received many compliments from both directors and fans of this Andrew Lloyd Webber mega-hit.
PHANTOM’S GROTTO. Our Phantom’s Grotto initial sketch and a colorized draft were highlighted in the original release press release and blog article. The Phantom’s Grotto graphic development is complete and scheduled for production in mid-February by our internationally acclaimed painters. The resulting hand-painted Phantom backdrops will truly be artistic masterpieces.
Following initial acclaim as well as comments from directors, a secondary version of the Phantom’s Grotto is currently scheduled for mid-summer and will have several additional features – one of which will be bringing the water element completely to the stage.
DAAÉ CEMETERY. The Daaé Cemetery is finally finished; getting it to look and feel the way we wanted took over 30 days and 11 renditions of the image. Two of them are highlighted below: The first is an early draft and the second is a digital representation of the final backdrop. It was very important to us that the cemetery was realistic, true to the period, dramatic and very artistic; we believe our design teams have achieved our goals.
PARIS OPERA HOUSE ROOF and OPERA HOUSE GRAND ENTRANCE. Backdrops for the Roof Top of the Paris Opera House and the Grand Entrance for the “Masquerade” scene are currently in graphic development. The roof top image below is the 3rd stage graphic; our creative team will now detail the elements and begin the final colorization process. The Grand Entrance scene will only be shown in its final form.
Artistic and presentation goals for our Phantom series have been easy to say yet, hard to accomplish. We are hopeful that the Phantom Signature Series will be viewed as world-class artistic backdrops that are true to the period historically and with the appropriate artistic flare, dramatic, and just a little on the dark side. We are confident, based on conversations with many directors and educators, that the Phantom Series will support their vision and presentation style while providing beautiful imagery that ties the audiences’ memories to the original musical productions worldwide and the mega-hit movie.
TheatreWorld’s creative teams are being supported by professional artists in the United States, Europe and Asia as we are truly committed to engaging the finest designers, graphic artists and painters in the world to the benefit of our customers. We would like to sincerely thank both our in-house and global creative team for their support, ideas, and efforts. This Phantom of the Opera Signature Series of backdrops will truly be a worldwide creation.
UPDATE. When TheatreWorld first announced our Phantom series, it was going to release the scenic backdrops in a digitally-printed format first, followed by a hand-painted series. Based on suggestions from multiple directors, TheatreWorld will now release the 40′ x 18′ hand-painted series first, followed by the 25′ x 15′ hand-painted series. Additionally, Digital Projection Images for the Phantom Series will be available for purchase shortly.
Further, we are very happy that TheatreWorld’s Phantom Series has already been selected by several large schools to support their presentation of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA later this year.
As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. Please follow the Phantom development on our blog or call our customer support teams at 1-877-901-3353 with any questions about backdrop availability for THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA or any other show you may be considering.
